Programs Zone
Greetings NSBE Family,
The Programs Zone is the HEART AND SOUL of the Georgia Tech Society of Black Engineers! We provide some of the most educational, inspiring, and FUN programs that Georgia Tech and the community have ever seen. Our three key components within the Programs Zone are: Academic Excellence (AEx), Pre-College Initiative (PCI), and Technical Outreach Community Help (TORCH). Each of these committees is constantly planning programs, so they need your help and input! We welcome you to join a committee and become an ACTIVE member in GTSBE.
This school year, our Programs Zone has a lot in store for our members! Because the thrust of Academic Excellence is to improve the GPA of each member, we are providing them with workshops on everything they need to know about succeeding academically at Georgia Tech. These resources are sure to help you get an A+ in your classes! Hump Day Studies, Finals Food, Workshops, and Midterm Study Breaks are just a few other services that our AEx Committee provides our members.
Our PCI Committee is currently mentoring dozens of students at our 10 NSBE Jr. Chapters at surrounding Atlanta K-12 Schools. To continue the matriculation of our minority students in the engineering and science fields, our PCI Committee Chair and Members host College Visitation Days, Engineering Workshops, Math Competitions, and other motivational activities for middle school and high school aged students.
TORCH provides an opportunity for our members to do community service by exposing and training underprivileged young people to embrace and effectively use digital technologies (i.e. computer programs) to solve practical problems. Currently, TORCH does service at two Community Technical Centers, the Harland Boys and Girls Club and the University Community Academy.
Finally, the Programs Committee is in charge of monitoring the efficiency of GTSBE programs and planning general GTSBE events, such as the annual Membership Week, Back to School Cookouts, the 2nd Annual Wellness Fair, joint events with other organizations, and many more innovative programs. But without the support of you, it is impossible to plan such wonderful events. So take a leadership role and invest your time and ideas to help foster unity among Black engineers and encourage the next generation. Join our committees! Our goal this year is to provide "Motivation.A.S.A.P."!
Sincerely,
Kavonna Allen
